Biography

Maja Pivec is co-ordinator, scientific leader or partner in several EU funded projects, many in the Game Based Learning (GBL) arena. She is editor of three book publications in the area of innovative learning approaches, and guest editor of British Journal of Educational Technology, Special issue on learning from games, May 2007. Maja hosted the European Conference on GBL in 2009 and again in 2017 for which she was presented with a Congress Award. Her research work is published and presented at more than 150 international conferences and publications.

Maja is the creator of the Serious Games Design Summer School, and initiator of the ENGAGE portal, an EC funded Project for the dissemination of GBL resources and project outputs. She was also partner in Imagine Games project aimed at influencing European policy makers’ perceptions and actions to support the increase in mainstreaming of GBL.

Maja is editorial board member of eLearning Papers and international advisory board member of MJET – Malaysian Journal of Educational Technology. She is a Program Committee member of GAMEON conferences, of ECGBL and jury member for MEDEA Awards. She is also reviewer for European Science Foundation and for British Journal of Educational Technology (BJET).
